The UGG Bailey Bomber arrived in our shop this week.  We had seen a sample of this new style last September and immediately placed our orders for the first available ship dates.  The Bailey Bomber is very similar to the Bailey Button, but the Bomber is made of a brown distressed sheepskin.  The leather is made to resemble the bomber jackets made famous by World War II airforce and naval aviators…….which is probably where the name comes in.  The warm brown skin is a great color match to the lighter colored fleece.  The Bailey Bomber is a really pretty boot to look at, and looks even better on the foot.

We also had the  pleasure of meeting with our UGG footwear sales rep this past week and spent a few hours going over the UGG lineup for 2010.  There are so many styles and colors in the UGG line that it took us 3 full hours to view everything and take notes for our ordering.  It is an exciting line of footwear this year, but the biggest surprise was the missing Bailey Bomber.  That’s right…….the Bailey Bomber that just arrived in the shop 2 days ago,  the style that we have waited 4 months to receive,  has already been retired from the line.  I take this to mean that the Bailey Bomber is in fact a very limited edition style from UGG.  If you do not get this boot this season, you will be out of luck.  The Beggars Pouch has secured 2 deliveries of the The Bailey Bomber……one is in the shop now, and the last will arrive in February.  Then the Bailey Bomber becomes history.

Here at the Beggars Pouch Leather we take our UGG Boots very seriously.  We live in northern New Hampshire where the winter weather can really  chill out your toes so we don’t even consider wearing anything other than GENUINE UGG AUSTRALIA sheepskin footwear.  The reason for this is really simple…….UGG Australia footwear out performs all of the imitation knockoffs that are out there.  The Beggars Pouch has been selling UGG boots for just about 20 years.   We do not sell any of the numerous johnny-come- lately  UGG wanna-bes.  We give our customers what we consider to be the best in sheepskin footwear……stock the best,  ignore the rest.

It’s been a long time  coming, but the new Dansko Professional patent petrol has certainly been worth the wait.  This new style of the Dansko Professional has been getting tremendous attention in our shop.  Customers look at the rich patent gloss and then start to notice the colors swirling around UNDER the gloss……and then they start to smile.  Under the glossy finish, in the black patent leather is the look of oil in water.  Look closely and you can see the blue-green swirls.  Take this clog outside and see it in bright natutal light and the colors just pop right out at you.

October is here and so is another season for UGG Australia Sheepskin Boots.  Not that UGG Boots ever really go out of season anymore, it’s just that with cool crisp weather comes the need for some really neat warm boots to keep you cozy.  The weather up here in the White Mountains of NH is just perfect for UGG Boots.  The fall folliage is right at its peak…..the reds and flaming organges of the maples mixed in with the yellows of the birches just seem to pop out in the sunshine………and the temps have been a bit on the nippy side…….it snowed this morning with some areas getting a few inches of the white stuff, which  made the leaves look even brighter.

Today is September 1 2009, and it sure feels like Fall here in North Conway NH.  The calendar may tell  you that summer will continue for the next few weeks, but the cool evenings, chilly mornings and warm mellow afternoons make it feel like Fall.  Early Fall is the best of all the seasons……it just has a smooth rich feel to it.  The Dansko Pavans that arrived yesterday also have a smooth rich feel to them.

The Dansko Pavan has the look and style of the Dansko Professional, but the design folks at Dansko went a step further and added a padded collar to the Pavan and even included a neat looking cut-out design to it.  The clog is offered in 4 great colors of sueded leather; Black, Espresso, Pine and Wine that are just the perfect compliment to the Fall season.  Here in northern New England we know a little bit about rich Fall colors…….just ask any leaf peeker who has ever driven north on a Fall folliage tour.  The Dansko Pavan has just the look and feel that blends right in with this season…….warm, cozy, rich and mellow all at the same time.  Add in the comfort that Dansko is famous for and you’ve got yourself a winner for sure.

It looks like Summer has finally arrived in New Hampshire……and so have the UGG boots for 2009.  The weather has really been a mixed bag of rain and drizzle for most of June and July.  The sun has finally made an appearance in August and North Conway again is looking like the summer resort haven it really is.  People are getting into river swimming along with the hiking, biking and camping the white mountains of New Hampshire are known for.   The temps have been up in the 90’s for past few days; the warmest stretch of weather we have seen yet this year.

What a strange time for UGG Australia Sheepskin boots to be delivered, but last week the big brown UPS truck dropped off a whole lot of boots here at the Beggars Pouch.   Seems hard to believe, but they got here just in time.  Yesterday the temp hit 92 here in North Conway, and our morning sales started strong with customers out and about early to beat the heat………and they were shopping for Uggs.  

The 2 hot new UGG Australia styles for 2009 are the Bailey Button…….the run away winner in the young-girl-back-to-school look……..and the Bettey……….really hot with the young ladies looking for a shoe/clog with UGG’s style and fashion.

The folks at Dansko have been at it again.  New for Spring 2009 is the Professional in French Print.    The timeless styling and comfort of the Dansko Professional is offered in 2 great new pastel colors..white and lilac…… that are just perfect for Spring.  Add in a touch of French print for a splash of “J’ n sais quois” and the look is complete. 

These are limited editions from Dansko, available for only a short time, so if they catch your eye, shop early.  The Leopard Prints in Red and Grey from last Fall are long gone, and these French Prints are sure to be a hit……but only until they run out.

The best Christmas present you can find under your tree is a pair of UGG Classic boots.  Christmas came early to The Beggars Pouch today, when we got an extra order of UGG classic Short boots and UGG classic Tall boots just in time for the holiday season.  UGG has been sold out of extra stock for a long time;  these boots just dropped into our laps from who-knows-where, and we snagged them as fast as we could.  Many Thanks to that fat man in the red suit……and his little helper, Scott…….Happy Holidays!!!!!!!

The UGG Fashionistas are shopping again this year for their favorite UGG boots, and we were really lucky to get this extra shipment.  These boots should be arriving at the Beggars Pouch about December 7th, just in time for the peak shopping weeks before Christmas.   We have a good supply of UGG Classics, both short and tall, on hand for the Thanksgiving Weekend kick-off to the Christmas Season and now this means we should have a great selection of colors and sizes on hand for our customers right through the entire season.  We may even have a few pairs to deal with the after Christmas market and all those little Princess’s who missed out finding them under the tree.

UGG boots are not just your daughter’s fashion statement anymore.  This season UGG has come up with some hot styles that are sure to turn some heads.  The Classic Short and Talls are still the boot of choice for the young UGG fashionistas, but the Kona and the Endell are 2 hot styles that are really getting a lot of attention from ladies of all ages.

The Kona is part of the UGG surf collection which includes Kohala, Cove,  and Swell.  These all have the same footbed and are soft and shock absorbing to the foot.  Kona is a short boot with hook and lace shark teeth on the side for easy in-easy out fit.  These boots feel great from the moment you slide them on.

Hard to believe, but Sunday October 26 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beggars Pouch Leather in North Conway, New Hampshire.  How did that happen?  At this point in life it is getting really easy to say how the time really blows right by when you’re having fun, and believe it or not, after 3 decades, it still is fun.  Even after all these years it still is fun to make something you can be proud of.  It is still fun to greet our customers and work with them in finding the right gift.  It is still fun to come to work each day and spend the time with people you enjoy being with.  It may be work, but sure beats having a job.

I remember opening day really well.  The folks from North Country Fair stopped by with champagne, Mary and Hansjorg sent a rubber tree whose 4th or 5th generation offspring is still alive and well in our home greenhouse.  It was a Friday , and when we totaled out that evening we probably had taken in around $100.00,……….clearly a huge success right from the start.  Rene’ and I were 24 at the time, and things like business plans, health insurance, pension plans and 401Ks didn’t really mean all that much to us…..some of those things probably had not even been invented yet.    We just decided to open a shop where we could work together making leathergoods that we could be proud of.   I made the belts and she made the handbags and we teamed up together to make the wallets we sold.  The shop did well, but the traffic in North Conway back in 1978 was really seasonal;  you could close for a big part of the spring mud season until the summer people came.  Fall foliage was just a couple of weeks long and then it died right out until the snow came….if it came…..in time for Christmas.  We still continued to wander around New England working craft festivals to fill in the time and to pay the bills until 1994.

 Little by little the shop grew, Nancy came to work with us then Debbie, then Donna and so on.  The newest Donna marks the 38th employee here at the Pouch, and Ben is due to start this week, he will be #39.  We added boots and footwear for our customers, then jackets and hats, always mindful that we were a working leather shop, which is what we still are.  The products we made by in 1978 are still being done today, but  perhaps in an updated fashion.   We still make all the belts we sell, we still make a line of handbags in a variety of colors and we still make several styles of wallets for both him and her.  We are still a working leather shop.  People seem to be surprised when they realize we actually make these items we sell, but when you really think about it, they have to made somewhere, so why not here in the Village of North Conway by folks who have practicing their craft for over 30 years?

It really has been a great first 30.  I’m not sure where the next 30 will take us, but if all goes well, Rene’ and I will get there together, where ever that is.  The real secret to our success has been the most obvious……we still work together and still play together and still enjoy being together.   Only a few things get better with age, and wine and women are at the top of my list.  Maybe tomorrow evening I’ll take my partner-for-life out to dinner and enjoy her company with a good bottle of wine.
